(from The Stanstead Journal)
The committee to restore the Dufferin Heights’ monuments will launch its fund raising campaign on February 16. The target is $15,000. The committee is composed of members of the Stanstead Historical Society, the Royal Canadian Legion Stanstead Branch, and concerned citizens. Historical Society: Harry Isbrucker (project manager), Mike Hackett and Bob Alger (co-chairmen, fund raising campaign) Toby Rochester (publicity). Stanstead Legion: Dave Woodard (vice-president) and Ralph Munroe (secretary.) Concerned citizens: Pierre Demers (Stanstead East councillor), Peter Drysdale (President of the Dufferin Heights Country Club).
The Committee already has commitments for $37,000 and requires another $15,000 so as to start work on the project in the spring.
The Settlers’ Monument was erected in 1927 on the Morrill family’s property. The War Veterans’ Monument was built in 1923 on land donated by J.A. Peasley.

The settlers’ monument must be completely reconstructed with a proper foundation. The Veterans’ Monument must be grouted and a granite cap has to be installed at the top so as to protect it from erosion. The site also requires some tree and brush cutting as well as landscaping.
You may be a descendant of some of the early settlers or of a deceased veteran, if so, we sincerely hope that you will consider a donation to help us preserve this part of our local heritage, and we encourage everyone else to donate.
Please make your cheque payable to the Stanstead Historical Society and in the bottom left hand corner write the word Monuments. The Historical Society will promptly send out receipts for Income Tax purposes.
