LAKE MASSAWIPPI AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY
(August 12, 2003)

Matthew Farfan

The Lake Massawippi Area Historical Society was founded
in January of this year. This organization takes the place of the old North Hatley Historical Society, founded about ten years ago. As its new name suggests, the Lake Massawippi Area Historical Society has a much broader mandate: the history and genealogy of Lake Massawippi and all of its surrounding municipalities, including Ayer's Cliff, North Hatley, Hatley, Ste-Catherine-de-Hatley, and the Township of Hatley.

Society President D'Arcy Ryan confirmed this week that the historical society is currently looking for a permanent home. He says that the group has applied to all of the five area municipalities for financial support. One potential location that has been suggested is the former Bank of Commerce building in North Hatley, but nothing has been decided yet.
