FAMILY HISTORY AT LITTLE HYATT SCHOOLHOUSE

(May 10, 2004)

Matthew Farfan

For the second year in a row, the Little Hyatt One-Room Schoolhouse in Milby will be hosting a Family History Seminar on May 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The schoolhouse is located at 2185 McVety Road - just off Rte. 147, in Milby. The public are invited to attend.

At least five speakers will be on hand to share stories from their family history. In short presentations of twenty minute each, speakers will explain where their ancestors came from, on what ships they sailed, where they landed, where they settled, and when. Family photos will also be on display, along with family heirlooms. The idea is to show how the past can be brought to life through family history.

A pot-luck lunch will be served at noon while guests enjoy an "Around Table" social hour. Talks will resume in the afternoon, followed by a short question period. An exciting closure to the afternoon will be a short presentation of the musical "Louisa's Story". This historical musical about Louisa Stacey is being presented by Donald Patriquin, Professor of Music, McGill University and Sunil Mahtani, Artistic Director of the Piggery Theatre in North Hatley, along with Joey Richards and Lynne Hamilton of Sunshine Theatre Productions. The play is being prepared for April, 2005 at Arts Knowlton.

Speakers:
Phyllis Skeats - Leavitt Family
Gwen McKnight - Stocks Family
Mary Bean - Reed Family
Edson Warner - Warner Family
Bev Loomis - Stacey Family

Admission to the event is free of charge, though donations are much appreciated.
