Another of the Townships' most venerable covered bridges is slated for major restoration work, the Stanstead Journal reported this week. The Milby bridge, which is situated along Route 147, within the limits of the Town of Waterville, will soon be receiving an overhaul worth $100,000. The town has received grants of $60,000 and $50,000 from the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Transport respectively, and the contract has already been awarded to a Rimouski-based firm.
A one-span covered bridge, the Milby bridge was built in the Town lattice style in 1873. One of the oldest surviving covered bridges in Quebec, it is the pride of local residents. Waterville director general Kimball Smith is quoted in the Journal as saying that the bridge was “important architecturally and [that] the new Townships Trail will be going by it.”
