The Société d'histoire de Magog is celebrating Quebec skiing visionary Arlene Buzzell Whittier's remarkable place in sports history as founder of the Mount Orford Ski Patrol in a fascinating exhibit of photographs, documents and other memorabilia, on display from now until January 2006.
The exhibit, based on a collection of private papers recently donated to the archives of the Magog historical society by Whittier's daughter, Brenda Whittier Hutchins, follows the development of the safety patrol program as it spread to other ski hills in the region, across the province and eventually throughout Canada.
In addition to founding the patrol, Arlene Buzzell Whittier was its leader for seven years, until 1962.
