What was once the Stanstead Inn is no more. Damaged beyond repair by a fire last year, the old building had been a landmark on Dufferin Street in Stanstead since it was built some time in the mid-1800s.
In the early days of the automobile, the inn was a popular stop for travellers coming to and from the United States. This was before the construction of Autoroutes and Interstates, when all traffic passed through the village.

Until the disastrous fire, the building had been home to a butcher shop and a block of apartments. Before it was an inn, the building had been a store.
Today, a wrecking crew finished off the job salvagers started about a month ago. In little over an hour, they turned the landmark into a pile of dust and rubble.
