The City of Sherbrooke has just unveiled its new Prix d’architecture, or architectural awards. Organized by the city’s urban planning and development and communications departments, in cooperation with various municipal partners, the awards for 2009 will be presented at a special awards ceremony scheduled for February 6, 2009. Thereafter, the awards will be handed out every two years. The city’s objective in creating these awards was to “highlight the quality of new and restored architecture in Sherbrooke, in terms of the work, the building and its layout.”
Nominations are currently being accepted in the following categories:
New and Outstanding Architecture:
Residential;
Institutions, businesses and industries;
Urban design and site layout;
Outdoor signs (commercial, institutional and industrial);
Preservation, Renovation and Architectural Restoration:
Restoration, addition and integration;
Recycling
Honourable Mention:
Louis-N.-Audet Jury Award
A jury has been established for the 2009 awards. It is being chaired by Townships historian Jean-Pierre Kestemen. The deadline for nominations for the 2009 awards is December 5, 2008.
