LE VILLAGE QUÉBÉCOIS D'ANTAN

MISSION:
Classified as a cultural and heritage site, and located on the St. Francis River in Wendover Township, Le Village d'Antan is a reconstituted Quebec village of the mid-19th and early 20th centuries. The goals of the organization include: bringing to life the manners and customs of that period; preserving the trades and professions of long ago; preserving Quebec's folkloric games, writing, speech, songs, and dances; displaying the costumes, modes of transportation, farming techniques, and eating habits of yesteryear; showcasing Quebec's architectural heritage; promoting tourism, education, and culture; fostering a pride in Quebec's national heritage; and acquiring all of the goods, moveable or immovable, necessary to achieve these goals.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
a) A reconstituted historic village comprised of forty authentic buildings and twenty recreations. These include houses, shops, workshops, schools, sawmills, a church, an Abenaki long-house, a covered bridge, and more. A major regional tourism centre.

b) Several restaurants and snack bars serve traditional French Canadian meals.

c) Ferme d'antan. Includes farm buildings, workshops, a sawmill, and a petting zoo.
d) Community Centre.

e) Reception area / Boutique.

f) Picnic grounds.

g) Jeunes de Jadis educational vacation camp for children (ages 7 to 12).

h) Nearby cycling trail.

COLLECTIONS:
Each building is furnished according to its date of construction and the social status of its former occupants. Workshops contain collections of tools pertaining to the trades represented. Barns contain agricultural equipment.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:
Self-guided walking tours (4 km of dirt paths). Horse-drawn carriages (available for an extra fee). Guided tours for groups. Tour and school groups welcome (please inquire). Ferme d'Antan (Farm of Yesteryear), including: old-fashioned games, farm animals, and rare bird species. Maple syrup festivities, including "cabane à sucre" meals and sleigh rides (March/April). Period flower gardens. Annual celebrations on June 24 (St-Jean-Baptiste) and July 1 (Canada Day). Christmas Time (August). Harvest Fest, with old-time food-tasting (September). Choir Festival. Folk music. Public Market (products from all over the region -- last week of the season). Theatrical and musical animation. Accredited vacation camp for children ages 7 to 12 (all summer), in which children are immersed in the past, wear period costumes, learn old-time trades, folk songs and dances, and more (please inquire). During winter, cross-country ski trails in the Village. Package deals available for meals and special activities (please inquire).

BUSINESS HOURS:
June 1 to Labour Day:
Monday-Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (ticket booths close at 4 p.m.)
April, May, October: Groups only (24 or more people): By reservation only.
Restaurants open year-round for groups (reservations required).
Winter: Open for cross-country skiing.

ENTRY FEES / MEMBERSHIP:
General admission: $16.95. Seniors (65 and over): $14.95. Students (ages 13 to 25, with student card): $10.95. Children (ages 4 to 12): $6.95. Family (2 adults, up to 3 children): $38.95.
Annual membership: $50.00 plus tax (individual).
Free entry for members.

LANGUAGE OF SERVICE:
French (animation). English-speaking tour guides may be requested for groups, and by reservation only; an educational guidebook is available for English-speaking students.
