Located in the heart of Sherbrooke’s historic downtown core and perched majestically atop the gorge of the Magog River, the museum offers four exhibitions to which are added workshops and interactive games, all designed to help discover nature and the sciences.
On your own, with the family, or as a group, the museum offers you an enchanting visit that will also familiarize you with some of the major issues of the 21st century.”
History of the museum:
In 1879, the Musée du Séminaire was founded within a seminary school in Sherbrooke. After more than 130 years of promoting, respecting and preserving the natural sciences, the museum was ready for a change. In the fall of 2002, it began the metamorphosis that would turn it into the Musée de la nature et des sciences.
Our new museum resides in a section of historic Julius-Kayser building, a 5,000-square-metre space that once housed a lingerie factory. A major tourist attraction, the museum continues to foster interest in nature ans science and to broaden people's minds, just as the distinguished seminary once did.

COLLECTIONS:
The museum's collections total nearly 65,000 natural science objects and specimens. Originally housed in various local teaching institutions in the XIXth century, these collections have been enhanced over the last 125 years with the addition of numerous other objects and specimens that have a recognized scientific or historical value. The diversity of the flora and fauna of Quebec and Canada is well represented in the collection. There are also numerous specimens from elsewhere in the Americas and other continents to round out these collections.
With these collections, the conservation sector provides several services. Among other things, it responds to requests for information from the general public and collaborates directly in the exhibiting process of our museum and other museum-related institutions.
