DATE FOUNDED:
1877 (The Sherbrooke Snow Shoe Club is thought to be the oldest
continuously operating snow shoe club in the world).

MISSION:
To promote the grand old Canadian tradition of snow shoeing
and to provide an environment for socializing among the members
of the community.
PHYSICAL
DESCRIPTION:
Located at 1900 Prospect Street in Sherbrooke, just beyond the fire
station on the corner of Prospect Street and Jacques Cartier Blvd.,
the clubhouse is an impressive structure that has undergone a number
of additions since its original construction in 1888. Prior to that
date, club meetings were held at the former "Magog House"
on Dufferin Street. The rustic dark-stained woodwork on the inside,
coupled with an elegant fireplace provides an authentic atmosphere
that newer establishments can only try to imitate.

COLLECTIONS:
Hanging on the inside walls of the building are photographs and
artifacts that portray aspects of the 126 year history of the Club.
SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:
Schedule: Although on occasion the building is used during the summer
and early autumn, the major activities of the Club begin with the
Annual Meeting in late October. Activities continue from then on
until the end of February, members meeting each Wednesday evening,
sometimes with the ladies invited. On selected Saturday evenings
the ladies are present to dine, be entertained and often to dance.
One very special gala event, known as the "President's Reception",
is held annually on the evening of New Years Day.

Country Club property). For those who prefer indoor activities,

or just visiting while standing around the cosy fire place. Saturday
or Sunday snow shoeing excursions for members, families and guests
are planned.
