SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:
Visitors are invited to come and discover the history of the Northern
Appalachian Townships. The area's first settlers -- the English,
Irish and Scottish -- brought with them their customs, know-how,
music, and way of life. Guides will relate the life stories of our
village's forefathers -- people like James Kinnear, a mill operator,
and Harriet Wilson, whose thriving general store first opened in
1847. They will learn how the drive and determination of these pioneers
helped build a vibrant economy and community.
Visitors will meet characters who will describe local life in the
19th century. They will also visit four churches -- Presbyterian,
Anglican, Methodist and Catholic.
