MISSION:
The mission of the Archives nationales du Québec is to ensure
the conservation and development of documents significant to the
history of Quebec. More specifically, it entails conserving and
disseminating historic government, civil, and judicial archives;
training and advising public organizations in the management of
their administrative and historic archives; and promoting the conservation
and utilization of private archives through aid programmes.
PHYSICAL
DESCRIPTION:
Archives.
COLLECTIONS:
The Centre conserves collections of both a public and private nature.
These include: baptisms, marriages, burials, and notarial acts available
on microfilm (beginning in the late 18th century); archives of government
services in the region and of tribunals (beginning in 1823); archives
of a private nature, including documents of musician Sylvio Lacharité,
founder and musical director for over 30 years of the Sherbrooke
Symphony Orchestra (correspondence with artists, musical work, concert
programmes, etc.); documents of poet Alfred DesRochers (correspondence
with writers, manuscripts of his works, unpublished poems, etc.);
drawings and plans of the buildings of architects Denis Tremblay,
J. Aimé, and Albert Poulin, illustrating civil and religious
architecture of the 20th century; photographs and postcards of people,
events, and scenes of the region (the Jacques-Darche and Jean-Paul-Boudrias
Fonds, the Freeman Clowery Collection) from the early 20th century;
and a collection (Jean-Jacques Schira) of record albums (78 speed)
of traditional violin music and of Canadian songs by74 artists such
as "la Bolduc."
