MISSION:

To make known the history of Saint-Armand and surrounding areas, including "Nigger Rock" Slave Cemetery and other aspects of the history of the black pioneers in the Saint-Armand area.

To retrieve early documents that lay dormant in homes in the area.

To gather and transcribe oral traditions.

To promote research and archaeology.

To organize conferences and educate the public.

To raise funds to protect precious archaeological sites.

To develop intercultural exchanges in rural areas.

COLLECTIONS:
Audio-visual material, including recordings of oral traditions; miscellaneous other documentation on the history of the region, with emphasis on the black history of the Saint-Armand and Philipsburg areas.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:
Exhibitions on local history (at the Saint-Armand Community Centre); educating people about the black heritage and the history of the area; Restoration of Saint-Armand's reputed "black chapel"; campaign to have the slave cemetery known as "Nigger Rock" officially recognized and protected; historic research; guided tours of local historic sites (by special request).
