MISSION:
To collect information that will help residents of Weedon to better
understand their history, and to enable them to build the future
without forgetting their past.
PHYSICAL
DESCRIPTION:
Archives / Library (located in the Centre communautaire de Weedon).
The Society also maintains historic plaques and monuments at numerous
sites around town, including: Parc Central (the old station), Parc
du vieux moulin (Moulin Beaudoin), and others.
The Society also maintains an exhibition site at Maison Laplante.
COLLECTIONS:
Publications, documents, photographs, and other material pertaining
to the municipality. These include censuses (from 1851), baptism,
marriage, and death records from Weedon, Fontainebleau, and St-Gérard,
demographic statistics, and other data useful to genealogists and
historians. 350 early school books (on exhibit several times).
SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:
Regular exhibitions on themes of local interest. The annual presentation
of "centenary certificates" to older families in the area.
Participation in parades. Involvement in Weedon's 125th Anniversary
celebrations, which included assisting in the production of a commemorative
book and identifying archival photographs of school children. Conducting
adult seminars on local history, and publishing the recollections
of former and current residents of Weedon in the local paper, l'Éveil
du Citoyen. Providing various services (education, animation, and
coordination) to individuals and community groups involved in heritage-related
activities. Volunteer-based.

Livre du 125e Anniversaire de Weedon (594 pages): $25.00.
Livre du 75e Anniversaire de St-Gérard (168 pages). $20.00.
Various thematic publications (about 15). $3.00 each.

Annual membership: $5.00.
Access to the collections is free to everyone, but donations are
much appreciated. Tax receipts available.
