Genealogy, or
the study of one's family lineage, is a hugely popular pastime in
North America.
In
the Eastern Townships, a number of institutions provide service
to people researching their family trees. Because of the region's
historic ties to New England, the Townships are a popular hunting
ground for American genealogists whose ancestors lived in the region.

Historical and genealogical societies in the Eastern Townships contain
a wealth of important source material, including cemetery records,
vital statistics (births, deaths, and marriages), census returns,
early newspapers, photographs, and much more.
